IPL spot-fixing: Vindoo Dara Singh sent to 3-day police custody for alleged links to bookies

New Delhi Actor Vindoo Dara Singh, son of wrestler Dara Singh, has been sent to police custody till May 24 by a court in Mumbai. He was arrested by the Mumbai Police for his alleged links with bookies accused of spot-fixing in the IPL's on-going edition.
Here are the latest developments in the story:
  1. Vindoo Dara Singh was earlier interrogated by the police. Sources say he was named in the scam by Ramesh Vyas, one of the alleged bookies arrested by the Mumbai Police last week.
  2. Ramesh Vyas reportedly has links with Sunil Dubai, an alleged mediator between bookies in India and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Anees Ibrahim. Police believe he is a "prized catch."
  3. Vyas has reportedly told his interrogators that Vindoo Dara Singh was friends with several influential bookies and allegedly facilitated them. Mumbai Police had reportedly taped telephonic conversations as evidence against him.
  4. So far, at least 19 people have been arrested from different cities in the massive spot-fixing scandal. Prominent among them are S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. All three Rajasthan Royals players have been suspended by the franchise pending inquiry. They are being produced in a court in Delhi today.
  5. A court in Delhi today extended the police custody of the three tainted cricketers and eight others by another five days. It also sent four bookies to judicial custody for two weeks. Sources say the Delhi Police needs more time to interrogate the players as it wants to confront them with the bookies who have been recently apprehended.
  6. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the remaining four matches of the Indian Premier League, but asked India's cricket board to ensure that "cricket should remain a gentleman's game".
  7. Slamming the BCCI, the court said, "Definitely there is some kind of irregularity. But the biggest problem is the lackadaisical attitude of the BCCI. It should stop. There has to be some scientific dispassionate and impartial approach to solve these problems." (What the court said)

  9. Sreesanth, Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were interrogated for the fifth straight day by the Delhi Police yesterday. They were questioned together for the first time on Sunday. Sources say all three have confessed to their crime, but blamed each other for dragging them into spot-fixing.
  10. IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals has suspended the contracts of the three players pending inquiry. It has also filed an FIR against its three arrested players for violating their contract. The chairman of the franchise, Ranjit Barthakur, met a special cell team in Delhi today.
