Norwegian Minister meets Kapil Sibal over Uninor

New Delhi: Norwegian Minister Rigmor Aasrud met with India's Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday. She raised her government's concerns over its Rs 14,000 crore investment in Indian telecom firm Uninor.

"We had good, fruitful and constructive meeting with telecom minister. We took up Telenor's case along with other issues," Asrud told reporters after the meeting.

Uninor, a 67 per cent subsidiary of Norway's Telenor, has also said that it would file a review petition in the Supreme Court and also take up the matter with the government to secure its investments here.

"Uninor plans to look at all options including fresh auctions of second generation spectrum by India to protect its investments," said Sigve Brekke, CEO, Uninor.

Brekke said further that the company was ready to participate in new auction if that was the only option.

Brekke made strong statements to indicate that Norwegian Telenor was upset about the Supreme Court verdict to cancel all 22 licenses of Uninor.

"Yes, I am upset. We did not come here to roll over and die," he said.

"India should allow only 2008 participants in new sale," he said at a press conference on Monday.
