New Delhi: BJP and Congress on Tuesday demanded the cancellation of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's nomination and complained to the Election Commission against the AAP chief for alleged violation of model code of conduct.

While BJP slammed Mr Kejriwal for "defaming" the party by accusing it of bribing voters before the election, the Congress charged him with "cheating" the people by declaring a false address in the nomination papers.

"Today we came to the EC to complain against Arvind Kejriwal for misleading the people of Delhi, the way he is insulting the people by accusing parties of bribing voters and violating the model code of conduct.

"We have complained on four-five things against him to the Commission and demanded cancellation of his candidature and banning him from giving any speech," BJP's Delhi President Satish Upadhyay told reporters.

Earlier at a rally, Mr Kejriwal had asked voters to "fool" the Congress and BJP by voting for AAP even after accepting "bribe money" from them.

Congress' Kiran Walia also complained to the Commission saying, "How can an ex-chief minister declare the wrong address everytime? His name should be removed from the electoral rolls and he should be barred from contesting election."

Ms Walia added, "We said to the Commission that after resigning as the chief minister, Mr Kejriwal shifted from Tilak Lane to Kaushambi (Ghaziabad), but he applied for voter card showing his address as Vittal Bhai Patel House and it was rejected by the Commission stating that it is his office and he cannot show it as residence.

"Then immediately he applied from BK Dutt Colony in New Delhi constituency as a voter which is also an office of the party. However, it was accepted by the Commission and today we came to complain against it."

Taking on Mr Kejriwal for using Kiran Bedi's photograph in AAP posters and terming her an "opportunist", Mr Upadhyay said that the matter was raised with the Commission and the officials have promised strong action.

"This kind of politics is a direct violation of the model code of conduct and we have taken up the matter strongly.

While opinion polls are banned for the electronic media soon after dates are announced, Mr Kejriwal is putting up opinion polls on the back of auto rickshaws, we have also compained against it," he said.
