Guwahati:  Repolling may be ordered in 33 polling booths in five hill districts of Manipur that saw violence, Chief Electoral Officer P.C. Lawmkunga said on Tuesday.

He said the state election department had made the request to the Election Commission.

Seven people were killed in election-related violence in Manipur on Jan 28 when people voted to pick a new assembly.

The seven deceased included a girl, a paramilitary trooper and a Naga militant. The remaining four, including a woman, were election officials.

Of the 33 polling booths, nine are in Ukhrul district, four in Tamenglong, eight in Senapati, four in Churachandpur and eight in Chandel, Lawmkunga said.

The Election Commission has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to the four polling personnel who were killed in Chandel district Jan 28.
