Gujarat elections: Senior leader Narhari Amin resigns from Congress
Ahmedabad: With just days to go before Gujarat votes to select its next government, senior Congress leader in the state, Narhari Amin, has resigned from the party after being denied a ticket. Mr Amin, a former Deputy Chief Minister, was expecting to contest from Gandhinagar South constituency.

The Congress had decided not field Mr Amin in the Gujarat assembly elections this month, sticking to its policy of not nominating those who have lost two elections.

Lending their support to Mr Amin, who yields considerable influence in the state's Patel community, his supporters submitted their resignations to Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia on November 30. City Congress chief Pankaj Shah, along with 18 municipal councillors, and 40 ward presidents submitted their resignations.

Gujarat votes in two phases on December 13 and 17. The results will be declared on December 20.
