Allahabad: Police today claimed to have busted a fake currency racket here with the arrest of one person and recovered fake currency notes with face value of Rs 7 lakh from him.

Achche Lal, resident of Pratapgarh region, was arrested from Mauaim in the district's trans-Ganga region in an operation carried out jointly by the Special Task Force (STF) and the local police, Deputy Superintendent of Police Durga Prasad Tewari said.

"The local police was intimated by the STF about Achchhe Lal's involvement in the fake currency racket and his possible visit to Mauaim," he said.

Accordingly, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested, he added.

"Lal is being interrogated by the STF and it is not yet clear as to how long he has been a part of the fake currency racket, who his associates are and from where he has been obtaining the counterfeit notes," the DSP said.

This arrest and recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) comes less than a month after two persons were nabbed from Tharwai in the same region on August 13.
