Five-year-old killed in hit-and-run accident

Ahmedabad: In a tragic hit-and-run accident in Ahmedabad, a five-year-old girl was killed and her grandfather, with whom she was riding pillion, was injured after a mini-truck hit their two-wheeler.

It was a courier company's mini-truck (registration number GJ-I- AB 5110) that snuffed life out of Riddhi, who was the only daughter of Jayesh Dave, managing director of GE-Money Countrywide. The family resides at C-31, Sharnam 10 Apartments, Satellite.

Riddhi was sitting on her grandfather's two-wheeler when they were knocked down by a truck near Anandnagar Crossroads at 12.45 pm.

According to Satellite police inspector AK Verma, a crowd gathered at the site of the accident and got hold of the driver of the truck. They beat him up mercilessly, but, in the melee that ensued, the driver sneaked back into his truck and sped off.

Police sources say that the crowd's attention may have been diverted when they started to focus on the victims.

"They called up emergency services and the 108 ambulance soon zoomed in and took them off to the hospital," the PI said.

The girl, who was in a critical condition, was treated for some time, but she died within minutes of being hospitalised. Her grandfather Rasiklal is said to be in a serious condition.

The Satellite police have registered a case of accidental death in the matter, but have not yet traced the vehicle that caused the fatal accident.
