Agra to host first world congress on rights of disabled

Agra: More than 1,200 delegates from 85 countries will participate in the first international congress on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) in the Taj city, an official said.

The congress will be held from November 26 to November 28 at hotel Jaypee Palace.

The theme for the congress on the CBR is the key to realizing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The overall objective will be to promote the CBR as a global strategy to realize the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to Agra District Magistrate Ajay Chauhan.

Chauhan said the congress will discuss rights of the disabled, human rights, rehabilitation schemes, security of the disabled, migration and other related issues.

Some of the important dignitaries and participants at the event will be CBR practitioners, representatives from disabled people's organisations, policy makers, rehabilitation experts, specialists, local and international non-governmental organisations, government officials and other stakeholders, who will all have the opportunity to learn, share and exchange validated practices from all over the world.

The Congress will be an excellent platform to network with opinion makers and breakers, and influential contributors in CBR and disability sector, according to the organisers.
